The largest privately owned residential mega yacht on Earth and the only one of its kind currently in operation is set for its scheduled dry-dock in Cadiz, Spain. A series of thoughtful enhancements and transformative engineering upgrades will take place.

The World’s meticulous dry-dock process ensures the ship maintains impeccable physical condition, surpassing industry standards and earning a DNV statement of excellent long-term management of the vessel.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 2 APRIL 2025The World Residences at Sea, the largest privately owned residential ship on the planet, will soon begin an extraordinary six week dry-dock at the Navantia Shipyard in Cadiz, Spain, bringing with it an array of transformative upgrades. The multi-million enhancements promise to elevate the ship’s unparalleled luxury lifestyle to new heights, offering its Residents a living environment that blends cutting-edge innovation and refined elegance with world-class comfort.

As part of its commitment to maintaining and enhancing the lifestyle on board, The World enters a planned dry-dock every three years to conduct routine technology and maintenance upgrades, update public spaces based on current design and lifestyle trends, and continue to maintain the highest standards of living on the seven seas. As a result of its rigorous dry-dock process and meticulous ongoing maintenance, The World recently received a report from DNV, a globally respected authority in maritime safety and sustainability. After the completion of this comprehensive study and extensive evaluation, DNV assessed The World as having a fatigue age of 5.6 years – only a quarter of her actual chronological age.

Based on the report and in recognition of The World’s commitment to operating the vessel to maximize its long-term quality, efficiency, and environmental sustainability, DNV presented The World’s President & CEO Jessica Hoppe with a “Statement of Extended Life” at the Seatrade Cruise Global fair in 2025.

“This extraordinary 40-day, $30+ million outlay in the Ship demonstrates Residents’ commitment to keeping The World at the forefront of luxury living, and represents the next chapter in that journey,” said Ms. Hoppe. “Our Resident owners continue to invest in the ship, ensuring that it not only evolves with their needs but also stays ahead of global innovations. Our recent Statement of Extended Life from DNV is a testament to the exceedingly high standards that we set, how hard our deck and engine teams work to meet those standards, and the support that we receive from the Resident community.”

Sustainability and De-Carbonization Upgrades

The 2025 dry-dock will focus on energy efficiency and sustainability, ensuring that The World continues to meet and exceed global climate targets. Among the most impactful updates is the installation of shore power, also known as cold ironing, a High Voltage Shore Connection (HVSC) system. It will allow the ship to plug into shore-based electricity while docked and shut down its onboard generators. This reduces fuel consumption and emissions while in port, in line with the regulatory requirements in ports in California and Europe and elsewhere where this solution becomes available.

The ship’s bulbous bow will be replaced, a de-carbonization project. Originally optimized for a speed of 19 knots, the new design will reduce hull resistance by up to 10% and significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions. The World will switch to silicone-type underwater paint, which will not only reduce hydrodynamic resistance but will also prevent marine growth, improving efficiency and minimizing cleaning. Additionally, new air conditioning chillers and Fan Coil Units (FCUs) will be installed to enhance cooling efficiency and reduce energy consumption. These upgrades are all part of The World’s commitment to a sustainable future.

Pool Deck Reimagined

Deck 11’s Pool Bar & Grill will undergo a complete transformation with a new enlarged bar front and restored galley and grill. The renovated bar area, including a new pizza oven and pantry, will help provide gourmet meals in a more refined social setting while allowing for faster service. Along with a new banquette and added seating is a watertight canopy offering a light, airy aesthetic. Reminiscent of a boat’s sails, it subtly reinforces the nautical experience, providing shade by day and an elegant silhouette against the night sky. Soft, neutral tones and textured fabrics create a sense of relaxed luxury while partitions featuring organic, foliage-inspired designs introduce an element of nature. The pool area will welcome a new Jacuzzi, shower, cushions, curtains, signage and towel stations. This space will be transformed into a sleek, modern oasis, blending comfort and style with updated décor.

The World Spa & Wellness Center Refresh

The Ship’s 7,000 sq ft spa will also get several upgrades designed to elevate Residents’ wellness experience. A new Cold Plunge located in the Aqua Spa will complement the existing sauna and steam room, completing a full thermal wellness circuit. Cold Plunges offer many health benefits such as reducing muscle soreness and inflammation, improving circulation, enhancing mental clarity, promoting better sleep, supporting immune function, building stress resilience and boosting metabolism. In-person and virtual Cold Plunge & Breathwork classes will be offered on board by a certified instructor. The salon will get a facelift with new flooring and a new manicure station. To add even more comfort to an already tranquil space, all treatment rooms will have heated floors with gentle heat penetrating feet to instantly relax muscles and create a sense of coziness.

Golf Lovers Rejoice

Refurbishments to the Deck 12 putting green will offer a unique way to practice golf while at sea with modifications to more closely resemble land-based areas. More realistic turf and surface material, carefully designed contours, slopes and undulations will challenge players and simulate the characteristics of traditional greens for a more natural feel and experience. Resident golfers can practice their putting amid beautiful coastlines, ocean views and cool breezes in a more relaxed setting than traditional golf courses. For those seeking an indoor golf experience, a new golf simulator located in The World Golf Club provides the Community’s many golf lovers with advanced technology and more realistic graphics to improve their game, enjoy the sport year-round, and experience the thrill of playing 100+ courses worldwide from the comfort of home. State-of-the-art high-speed cameras will measure ball data for long drives or short putts. With the ‘play where the pros are playing’ feature, the course being played that week on the PGA Tour can be downloaded allowing Residents to test themselves against the pros in real time. Non-golfers will also benefit from the simulator’s 30+ games like baseball, football, soccer, hockey, and more.

New Adventures in High Performance Zodiac

The World will be adding a new, 10-seat Zodiac to its fleet of inflatable boats for the ultimate exploration experience. In addition to providing basic transport from Ship to shore and relaxed cruising of coastal areas, it will take Residents to remote locations for more immersive and up-close viewing of nature and wildlife. Whale watching, a Resident favorite, will be ideal from the Zodiac due to its maneuverability, closer proximity for a more intimate experience, and unobstructed views. It will also be used for accessing a multitude of interesting locations not reachable by the Ship. The Zodiac Pro 850, the largest in the Pro range, is being tailor-made especially for Residents’ enjoyment.

Comprehensive Maintenance and Essential Upgrades

The World’s dry-dock will also feature essential maintenance to ensure the ship remains in peak condition. Its elevator systems will undergo a comprehensive upgrade in partnership with Finnish experts KONE, improving efficiency and overall reliability.

Residences Undergoing Refurbishment

In addition to upgrades to public spaces and technical systems, some 50 private Residences on The World will undergo refurbishment during the dry-dock. The scope of work will vary by Residence ranging from minor updates to more extensive renovations. Some Residences will see flooring, closets, and cabinets replaced in the living and bedroom areas along with new furniture and wallpaper. Kitchens will have updated cabinetry, countertops, and appliances, including full-size refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, and dryers. Bathrooms will feature walk-in showers, new vanity units, and updated sanitary ware and tiles.

A Continued Commitment to Excellence

As The World enters her dry-dock phase, the ship is poised to emerge even more refined, more sustainable, and more equipped to offer the ultimate luxury living experience at sea. With these new enhancements, it will continue to set the bar for residential living at sea and redefining the boundaries of private yachting and global travel. She remains the epitome of luxury, the only 100 percent residential mega yacht currently in operation, and the only one of her kind on the open seas.

For the owners of the luxury Residences aboard The World, the opportunity to explore the most remote and exotic destinations on the planet—while enjoying the comforts of their own private homes—is truly unmatched. From studios to sprawling three-bedroom, three-bath homes, every inch of this floating paradise is designed for ultimate relaxation and exploration. With six fine dining restaurants, a state-of-the-art golf facility, full-service spa, hair and nail salon, fitness center, tennis/pickleball court, cinema, sports bar, and more, The World is a sanctuary at sea—now set to become even more refined after its dry-dock transformation.

[LONDON, England, October 2024]The World, Residences at Sea, the largest privately-owned residential mega yacht on Earth, is pleased to announce its return to the stunning island country of New Zealand where its residents will enjoy seven ports of call plus fjord cruising during an extended 24-day journey. This marks the ship’s sixth visit to New Zealand since its launch in 2002 with its last visit in 2017. Beginning in mid-October, the one-of-a-kind ship will visit Stewart Island, Port Chalmers (Dunedin), Lyttleton (Christchurch), Kaikoura, Wellington, Napier, Auckland and Bay of Islands. The sojourn is part of the ship’s spectacular 2024 voyage to six continents including Antarctica, South and East Africa, South Asia, Indonesia, South Pacific and Australasia.

The ship’s arrival in New Zealand comes after an incredible expedition in January to Antarctica and the Falkland Islands where some residents experienced a once-in-a-lifetime journey to explore the South Pole, followed by South America where Residents visited Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and the volcanic islands of Tristan da Cunha in February. March found residents exploring the eastern coast of Africa, immersed in cultural traditions in Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa, and Mozambique, before heading to the Seychelles, Maldives, and Sri Lanka. The Asian leg of the journey included visits to India, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam before spending time in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Seoul, Nagasaki, Tokyo, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Indonesia.

The World’s call to New Zealand follows two incredible expeditions to the Kimberley and Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. While discovering the Kimberely, Australia’s most remote and mysterious coast, residents explored long canyons by Zodiac, Mitchell Falls by helicopter and the Bungle Bungles, a unique and extensive range of rock formations only formally documented in the mid-1980s, by plane. The landscape, ancient art forms, wildlife, and tidal features were the defining highlights of this stunning region and remote coastline that few have seen. In Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands a circuitous route allowed for experiences that uncovered the fascinating cultures that populate these remote islands. Residents seized every opportunity to go hiking, access cultural performances, scuba dive, snorkel, and swim.

Resident owners of this private community at sea enjoy the ultimate combination of enriching travel to approximately 100 ports of call a year, complemented by world-class amenities, state-of-the-art facilities, and anticipatory service – all from the comfort of their homes on board. The ship’s Residents determine its yearly itinerary by a community-wide vote. Extended stays averaging three days in port ensure sufficient time to explore favorite destinations. Unlike most passenger vessels, The World spends nearly twice as many days in port as at sea. Every few days Residents awake to a new and exciting port of call outside their window.

On The World, Resident owners can travel the globe in complete luxury from the comfort of home. Offering an incomparable ease of travel, they can spend the day exploring and return to their own private residence in the evening – no packing and unpacking required, no planes or trains. Exploring the world has never been easier. The World is a complete floating city, equipped with high-end facilities and luxurious amenities that create an intimate, refined atmosphere. The ship’s warm and inviting ambience is much like that of a private yacht, well-staffed private home, or exclusive country club. The strikingly beautiful and well-appointed ship offers personalized, anticipatory service and amenities by an extraordinary crew who know each Residents’ preferences.

On The World you’ll find an art gallery where local artists are invited to display their works, Bali beds on deck for a night under the stars, bikes and e-bikes, a Call-a-Chef program to prepare a meal in your residence for entertaining family and friends or for an intimate night in, Colosseo theater, Fitness Center open 24/7 offering group classes and personal training, conference center, Fredy’s gourmet deli and cafe, Harmony – our Resident-led nondenominational chapel, In-Residence dining, library, Palette – our children’s play area and hobby room, physical therapist, pools, restaurants, Sports Center offering live and virtual golf excursions to the world’s top-ranked courses, the only full-size regulation tennis court at sea, The World Boutique & Showroom, The World Concierge, The World Spa & Wellness Center, video-on-demand and DVD collection, The Zone game room, Camp Caravel youth program and so much more.

[London, England – September 2024] – For the tenth consecutive year, The World, Residences at Sea has been awarded ‘Best Ship Wine List in the World’ in The World of Fine Wine magazine’s World’s Best Wine List Awards 2024. The largest, privately owned residential mega-yacht on Earth has also been awarded the highest possible three-star rating for the tenth consecutive year.

As a lead category winner, The World joins the ranks of some of the finest restaurants across the globe and according to The World of Fine Wine, is among the best places in the world to drink wine. This recognition by one of the world’s leading wine magazines is a testament to The World’s impressive and unique wine collection.

Impressed by The World’s offerings, The World of Fine Wine judging panel commented that ‘this is a wonderful wine list throughout … the team have done a fabulous job’ recognising that ‘logistics for a list of this calibre is never easy, let alone on a ship.’ The list was also praised for the “breadth of origin, style, grape varieties, and by-the-glass offerings” with a particular specialism or regional themes that reflect The World’s global journey. The panel highlighted that “the list provides a wonderful exploration of specialist producers such as Lucien Le Moine, and regions, for example the Australian selection is very good. It is great to see that organic, biodynamic, and Kosher wines are indicated in the list.”

Speaking on behalf of The World on the accolade, Beverage Manager, Kelley Schaefer commented, “Winning this award for a tenth consecutive year is not only an honour, but a testament to the commitment of our entire Beverage Team for their passion and experience. Through their efforts they have established relationships with key wine industry partners across the globe. I am privileged to be responsible for maintaining these relationships, upholding the integrity of the wine program, and to work alongside our talented Beverage Team. We remain committed to offering our distinguished Residents an ever-evolving world class selection of wines sourced from the destinations we visit.”

Due to the unique nature of their roles, the Beverage Team on board The World can enhance their knowledge of wines globally, as constant sailing offers the best training experience possible. The World will visit more than 90 ports of call this year, and the exploration of the wine world continues with a visit to Australia where the CEO of Brokenwood Wines, one of Australia’s most respected wine labels, will board the Ship as well as Hans Herzog, a New Zealand winery boasting an eclectic array of grape varieties, all grown in one organic Single Vineyard.

Earlier this year the Ship explored South Africa, one of the planet’s most dynamic wine regions where Residents visited a number of world-renowned and boutique vineyards followed by a dinner on board complemented by wines from the region. In addition to creating bespoke wine experiences, the Ship’s sommeliers also work closely with The World’s chefs in creating menus and wine pairings that reflect the diverse cultures and foods from the destinations visited on the ship’s global voyage.

The World has a selection of 15,000 bottles and more than 1,200 handpicked selections from 20 countries.

An awe-inspiring voyage to six continents with expeditions to the Sea of Cortez, Madagascar, and West Papua

[August 2024]The World, the largest privately owned residential yacht on earth, reveals its 2025 Journey featuring unrivaled worldwide adventure. Sailing across five oceans and visiting six continents, a once-in-a-lifetime voyage awaits our international community of travellers featuring almost 100 ports of call. The only ship of its kind in operation today, The World offers a one-of-a-kind ultra-luxury lifestyle of global exploration from the comfort of a home at sea. Renowned for its explorations to the planet’s most remote and undiscovered regions as well as to diverse cosmopolitan cities, The World begins 2025 in Cabo San Lucas on the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula and ends the year in historical and picturesque Hobart, Tasmania, Australia where it will ring in 2026.

Carefully curated by the Residents themselves after months of thoughtful discussion and research, this itinerary combines vast open expanses, lesser-explored, remote lands and tiny island inlets with some of the globe’s most vibrant, metropolitan destinations. Continuously circumnavigating the globe on a journey bursting with unparalleled adventure, those on board will be immersed and enriched in a multitude of cultures and new experiences that beckon at each port of call.

The World’s incomparable 2025 itinerary promises breathtaking beauty, adventure and discovery.

After ringing in the new year in Cabo San Lucas, our international community will sail along the dramatic western coastline of the United States before sailing south to Mexico and embarking on an expedition to the Sea of Cortez, also known as the Gulf of California. In March, following visits to Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia, Residents will turn their gaze toward the Caribbean Sea. As they voyage to Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire, Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, the Grenadines and the Lesser Antilles, they will relish the region’s crystalline waters, rich flavors and vibrant wildlife. Across the Atlantic our explorers will journey to the Canary Islands, Funchal and Casablanca, followed by a brief departure to the Mediterranean, with stops in Italy, Malta, France, Spain, and Portugal. Upon their turn to the South Atlantic, Residents and guests will immerse themselves in African destinations throughout Namibia and South Africa.

Two more expeditions beckon between September and November. During the Madagascar Expedition, Residents and guests will explore the fourth largest island on earth and its huge diversity of habitats and wildlife, some species found nowhere else on Earth. The final expedition of 2025 to West Papua at the eastern extreme of Indonesia will reveal endless opportunities for exploration across a varied and dynamic marine ecosystem. As the year draws to a close, The World will spend the holidays Sydney, Australia, toasting to the New Year in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia and celebrating another incredible global journey.

Sea of Cortez Expedition

The magnificent sea teems with wildlife enclosed by the Baha peninsula known by Jacques Cousteau as “the world’s aquarium.” Away from the crowds of Cabo San Lucas, Residents will discover wild coasts where the desert meets the sea scattered with uninhabited islands. The expedition will include a voyage to the more remote islands with a hike through the lost world landscapes and forests of giant cacti in search for the endemic species. Numerous occasions for snorkelling and diving will be complemented by exploring the stunning coastlines by Zodiac or sea kayak in the company of majestic sea lions and playful dolphins along with opportunities to see gray whales in peak season. With expert guides and marine biologists on board, this expedition promises an immersive and educational experience in one of the planet’s most remarkable marine environments.

Madagascar Expedition

With the longest coastline of any African nation, Madagascar, the world’s fourth largest island, has a huge diversity of habitats ranging from tropical forests to arid deserts. While the coastline varies from mangrove-lined estuaries to stunning beaches with eclectic corals, it’s the diversity of the wildlife that makes Madagascar unique. It’s sometimes referred to as the eighth continent because of the species that have evolved there and that are found nowhere else on Earth. Along with the wildlife, the culture and history of Madagascar will be explored with Residents enjoying the beaches along the coast with swimming, diving and snorkelling in the warm waters of the Indian ocean.

West Papua Expedition

The final expedition of 2025 will be to West Papua, at the eastern extreme of Indonesia. This calm equatorial sea scattered with seemingly endless islands provides a wealth of opportunities for exploration both above and below the waves with exceptional marine biodiversity. Above sea there are vast landscapes of sculpted limestone, dense tropical forest and white tropical beaches along the shores. There will be visits to the towns and villages as well as islands with a rich history in the spice trade. With opportunities to explore stunning coral reefs, dense jungles and remote islands, along with world-class diving and snorkeling, this expedition offers a deep and enriching experience in one of the world’s last frontiers.

The World’s Expeditions

The ultimate experience, The World’s expeditions offer an in-depth look at a particular region. Led by a team of experts and specialist lecturers, they add new dimensions to each day with hands-on experience and knowledge. Depending on the location, they include anthropologists, marine biologists, dive and snorkel guides, historians, kayak guides, naturalists, oceanographers, ornithologists, and other local specialists. Professional photographers offer workshops to help Residents and guests capture vivid memories of the majestic landscapes. Once-in-a-lifetime events are complemented by informative lectures and excursions for hands-on immersion. Among the multitude of expeditions enjoyed by The World’s Residents are Aldabra, Antarctica and the Falkland Islands, Arctic, Bering Sea, Borneo, French Polynesia, Greenland, Madagascar, Melanesia, Namibia, Northwest Passage, Pacific Islands, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, Polynesia, Ross Sea, Sea of Cortez, Sea of Okhotsk, Seychelles, Svalbard, The Kimberley, Vanuatu, West Africa, West Papua, and White Sea.

The Australian leg of The World’s journey will begin with an expedition to The Kimberley, Australia’s most remote and mysterious coast. The ship will explore the long canyons by Zodiac, Mitchell Falls by scenic helicopter flights and the Bungle Bungles, a unique and extensive range of rock formations only formally documented in the mid-1980s, by plane. The landscape, ancient art forms, wildlife, and tidal features (particularly at Montgomery Reef) are the defining highlights of this stunning region and remote coastline that few people can see. The Expedition Team will seize every opportunity for Residents and guests to go hiking, access cultural performances, scuba dive, snorkel, and swim, and find the local experiences that will bring the destination alive. The Solomon Islands are surrounded by water that are positively teeming with sea life, which will be the focus of this adventure.
